While many people planning Mexico vacation might immediately look to the beach resorts, there are many wonderful tourist destinations in Mexico. Before you commit for a Mexico vacation package, consider some of the inland cities that are rich in cultural and historical activities.
Mexico’s second largest city is Guadalajara. Guadalajara and the surrounding State of Jalisco have produced some of the best-known Mexican traditions, including Tequila and Mariachi music. Like all towns of this ilk, traditional Mexican dishes are always available. The city is rich is history and culture, thought recent growth trends have created some of the same urban problems faced by any rapidly growing city of this size. When planning a Mexican vacation package that includes a trip to Guadalajara, consider that car travel in the city is sometimes difficult.
Mexico City, the largest city in Mexico, is an impressive array of both history and culture (believed to be the oldest continually inhabited city in Mexico and even in the Northern Hemisphere) and urban congestion. From churches that have been completely restored to ruins that exhibit this country’s ancient history, Mexico City offers tourists an incredible mixture of the old and the new.
Oaxaca offers a more relaxed view of Mexico. Among this city’s most popular attractions are ancient ruins, sidewalks of volcanic stones and festivals (including the famous Day of the Dead). The oldest ruins date back to more than 1,000 BC and many visitors also want to visit the nearby Indian villages. Travel in this city is easier than in the larger cities. Transportation should be included as part of the Mexico vacation package when the trip includes towns similar to Oaxaca.
