Though the toll road bypasses Tehuacan, you might want to make a side trip to this mineral springs resort nestled at 5,500 feet. Tehuacan's invigorating, refreshing climate and the nearby natural springs inevitably have made it a popular resort. This area is also the source of much of Mexico's bottled water. The bottling plants of two well-known companies are near town and offer tours for visitors, as well as all the refreshing spring water you can comfortably consume.
Tehuacan's pastoral, luxuriant atmosphere is enhanced by jacaranda, bougainvillea, casalmate trees, and myriad birds whose chattering awakes you with the rising sun.
On the road to Tehuacan, you'll see Mt. Malinche off to your left just beyond Puebla. Unlike Popocatepetl and lztaccihuatl, Malinche is snowless year-round. It was named for Cortez' Indian mistress.
