An increasing number of vacationers and sportsmen lured by good weather, water, scenery, and comparatively low priced resorts, are arriving at San Ignacio and Loreto by plane and road.
Southbound drivers come to the first interruption in San Ignacio's desert harshness along the road south of the in
land turn at El Rosario. Date palms introduced by Jesuit colonists spread a shadowy green roof up and down the valley. In town you can explore the well stocked store in the plaza and the massive stone church built by the Dominicans in 1786 and still in use today. In the fall you'll find racks of drying dates in the narrow streets up behind the plaza.
No airline touches down here, but light planes can land at the short, rough, rocky strip bulldozed out of the cactus covered lava cast of town (buzz town for a taxi).
