Nogales - border town in a new style
Nogales, Arizona, and its Mexican counterpart, Nogales, Sonora, are primary entry gateways for Mexico's west coast beaches. From one year to the next you can never expect to find Mexican Nogales as you left it. It is a border town of constant change of rebuilding, tearing down, and restoring.
Nogales agricultural and commercial center of the state of Sonora gets an added boost from tourism. The income from bullfights,parades with floats, and fiestas adds to the town's economy.
The customs offices at the border are open 24 hours a day; here you can acquire tourist permits, if you haven't already. The sheer joy of shopping brings weekend visitors to Nogales and attracts tourists on their way to other points within Mexico. Handicraft shops
and markets, a shopping center called Casa Margot, and artisans' galleries are scattered throughout the town. For those interested in sightseeing, La Caverna restaurant (where Apache chief Geronimo was briefly imprisoned when the restaurant was a jail), Sacred
Heart Church and the old Customs House provide historical interest.
For trailer facilities, motels, and hotels, the U.S. side of the border provides more selection with higher standards.
