Splendid tombs of rulers and other nobility have been found incorporated into the pyramidal platforms of temples; some are connected to the temples by ceramic tubes, or what have been called “psychoducts”—the Maya may have used them to communicate with venerated ancestors. Palaces and temples and ball courts covered the most fertile land.
