Accorded with generous acclaim as "The Shoe Capitol of Mexico," Leon is a bustling, industrious city in the state of Guanajuato. Shoes aren't everything here; Leon is also well known for all types of leather goods.
The general atmosphere of Leon reflects the city's highly industrialized activities. Prosperous looking and compact, the city has a vigorous comniercial air. Stores proclaim the healthy state of the city's economy in well stocked shelves and windows packed with locally made articles. Leon exudes the bustle and aggressiveness of some U.S. Midwestern farming and manufacturing cities.
You'll probably discover traffic is terrible, and you may find difficulty getting comfortable accommodations. Leon is a large city with many big city problems. Nevertheless, a spacious, wide boulevard runs the length of the city; trees bordering the plaza are trim and lush.
A few miles south of Leon and then 6 miles cast on a blacktop road is the popular health resort of Comanjilla. Here, thermal spring waters are piped into large swimming pools and also into the bathtubs and miniature pools of the guest rooms.
