Founded in 1528, Jocotepec radiates a quiet contentment with its long history. A few crumbling walls, old colonial architecture, and rough streets bespeak its age and give it a quality that makes it unique among the other lake resort villages. Heavy, handmade sarapes that are white with a colorful central design motif are a specialty of the village. Fishermen's huts and yards of fish nets strung out to dry are evidence of the village's fishing livelihood.
