Hermosillo - Clean capital of Sonora
Well worth a stopover, Hermosillo is a lovely clean city with wide tree lined boulevards and tiled walks. The town offers a variety of places to stay and things to do. Much of the original ornate colonial architecture still lines the plaza, but old adobes are being replaced with brick and many modern public buildings have sprouted up. Despite the smartness of Hermosillo's modern appearance, the "old" Mexico is still there in the evening promenade in the plaza, and in the shops where you'll find a wide selection of Mexican crafts and imported goods from Portugal, Italy, England, and Scotland. Markets are clean, and the seafood from Guaymas is plentiful and inexpensive.
The University of Sonora is located on the highway in the north central part of the city. Other points of interest in Hermosillo include the cathedral, the handsome museum, and the attractively planted Parque Madero. Several motels offer golfing privileges. Or, you may enjoy the excellent hunting and fishing available in nearby areas.
