The climate of the northern part of the Pacific coast is very hot (up to 37 C) and dry all year round; in fact it is a continuation of the desert of southern California. Sea breezes moderate the temperatures, and allow all year round tourism. Further south along the Pacific coast, the climate is much wetter, until, south of the Tropic of Cancer, it becomes humid (75- 80 per cent RH) with a pronounced wet season and temperatures that hover around 28 C all year. Acapulco, for example, has very heavy rain between June and September (over 250 mm each month) but December to April is a period of drought. It has a typical west margin tropical climate . Acapulco, and the other coastal resorts in this climate zone function as winter sun resorts for the US market in the same way as the Gambia does for Europe.
