Named for Father Eusebic, Kino, a Jesuit missionary who established a small mission here for the indigenous Seri people in the late 17th century, the bayfront town of Kino,110km west of Hermosillo, is divided into old and new parts that are as different as night and day.Kino Viejo, the old quarter on your left as you drive into Kino, is a dusty, run down fishing village. Kino Nuevo, on your right, is basically a single beachfront road stretching about 8krn north along the beach, lined with the holiday homes and retreats of wealthy gringos and Mexicans. It's a fine beach with soft sand and safe swimming. From around November to March the 'snowbirds' drift down in their trailers from colder climes.
